Yangshuo Biking and Hiking Tours

🕐 Highlights of Day 1: Ancient Osmanthus Trail Hiking, Xingping Fishing Lights Photo Tour

Picking up guest from train station or airport in the morning and we then drive directly to Dayu Ancient Town which is one of the four largest ancient towns in Guangxi to see the historic relics such as the Wanshou Stone Arch Bridge built in Ming Dynasty and etc.
We come to Xingping Ancient Town in Yangshuo County in the noon. After lunch, we will take a hike on the ancient Osmanthus Trail which is well known for being one of the top 10 hiking trails in Guilin. The ultimate purpose to hike the Osmanthus Trail is to see the glorious scenery of Liandao Bay or Sickle Bay. Li River draws a Q shape at Liandao Bay, the largest bay on the Li River. Standing at the end of the ancient Osmanthus Trail to have a panoramic view, you can have a feast for the eyes with innumerous mountain peaks, the fast flowing river as well as endless boats on the busy water way. The scenery here is breathtakingly beautiful. Even though similar scenery can be found by climbing onto the opposite Damian Mountain, the hike is relatively easy to be taken and that’s why we would recommend it.

When it is turning dark, it comes the best time for us to capture the amazing Xingping Fishing Lights (兴坪渔火 in Chinese) with the phone, camera or laptop. The so called fishing light is actually a traditional fishing method in Guilin region. As the sun is setting, the fishing men would row their bamboo boats to the deeper water in the heart of the river. They would firstly turn on the gas lamps to attract shoals of fish and then release the fishing eagles or throw the nets to formally start the fishing operation. Such fishing scenes are so primitive and thrilling that many tourists would gather around to find out what is happening. Over time, Xingping Fishing Light has become one of the best photo spots in Guilin.

At the end of Ten Mile Gallery comes a brilliant landmark of Yangshuo, that is, the Moon Hill. Let's stop our biking and start to climb the mountain. With the height of 380 meters, the Moon Hill has a natural moon-shaped arch below the top. Ascending the 800 steps, we come to the so called Moon Palace filling with all kinds of stalactites in less than one hour. The best mountaintop view here even surprised Richard Nixon, the 37th U.S. President when he visited Guilin China in 1976 and it is still there today to captivate you.
