Wuxi Train Travel Guide
Wuxi, called"Xi"for short, has long been known as" the pearl of Tai Lake". Wuxi is located at the passage of rivers and lakes of Yangtze River delta, bounded by Yangtze River to the north, Tai Lake to the south, Xishan and Huishan to the west, with the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passing through the city. |
Wuxi is a transportation hub in southern Jiangsu Province. Located in the "throat" of Yangtze River.
Wuxi has an important location: bordering Suzhou to the east, 128.2 km away from Shanghai, Changzhou to the west, 183 km away from Nanjing, and facing Zhejiang province to the south across the Tai Lake, Jingjiang (under the administration of Taizhou )to the north across the Yangtze River.
Wuxi is among the Famous Chinese Historical and Cultural Cities, and it is also one of the most economically developed cities having advantage in industrial and landscape tourism resources.
It is an advanced manufacturing base, a tourist resort as well as a recreational center of Yangtze River Delta.
Wuxi includes six districts and two county-level cities (Jiangyin city and Yixing city). The Municipal People's Government is located at No.1 Jingui Road, Binhu District.

Part I: Wuxi Railway Station
Wuxi Railway Station is situated at Xinyuan Road, Chong'an District with zip code of 214005. It ranks among the Top Class Stations in China.

There are two squares in Wuxi Railway Station: the North Square and the South Square.
Former Wuxi Railway Station is located in the South Square and is used as a stop for normal trains. Please board the train from the South Square, if your train number starts with Letter K, T, Z or Arabic numerals.
Located on the North Square, Wuxi Central Station is a newly-built high speed rail station used as a stop for high speed bullet trains, if your train number starts with Letter D or G, please board the train from the North Square.
Tickets sold by Wuxi Railway Station are printed with departure station (the South Square or the North Square). Please take great care with the differences between the South Square and the North Square before setting off, in order to avoid any delay.
Passengers holding tickets have free access to the waiting rooms of these two squares. However, passengers without train tickets in hands have to detour via underground passage between the North Square and the South Square.
Wuxi Central Station is next to the New Wuxi Bus Passenger Station and public transit roundabout. It is convenient for passengers to pass through overbridge to take long distance coaches or buses.
Part II: Wuxi East Railway Station
Wuxi East Railway Station is located at Anzhen (Town), Xishan District of eastern Wuxi.
About 15 kilometers away from Wuxi downtown, it is one of the stops for Jinghu (Beijing-Shanghai) High-Speed Railway.
Wuxi East Station has 2 platforms and 6 tracks. it was put into service on June 30th, 2011 with Jinghu( Beijing-Shanghai) High Speed Railway being open to traffic.
Buses for the downtown are available at Wuxi East Train Station. What's more, in the East Bus Passenger Station which is close to Wuxi East Railway Station, there are direct buses to and fro Jiangyin, Changshu and Zhangjiagang.

Wuxi East Railway Station has altogether 4 floors among which the basement is used as subway station. There is a sunken type plaza used for evacuating the passengers on the ground floor. The eastern and western sides of the plaza are used for parking of buses, taxi, vehicles and tourist coaches. On the 3rd floor, there are passenger drop off area and waiting hall. The top floor is used as platform for high-speed bullet rail.
The hardware and software conditions of Wuxi East Railway Station are advanced in China. However, a common complaint from passengers is that Wuxi East Railway Station is very remote as it takes about an hour to travel by bus from downtown. Buses between downtown and Wuxi East Railway Station are No.705, No.706, No.707, No.116, No.722, No.727, No.730, No.731, No.732 and No.6.

Part III: Wuxi Xinqu Railway Station
Wuxi Xinqu Railway Station, one of the stops for Huning(Shanghai-Nanjing) Intercity Railroad, is located on the south side of Xinhua Road, High-tech Zone A , Wuxi New District.
There are 2 platforms and 4 through tracks around the station.
Wuxi New District Railway Station is at the intersection of Xinhua Road and Zhujiang Road with convenient transportation. It is known that Wuxi New District Railway Station is only 3 kilometers away from Wuxi Airport, 4 kilometers away from Exit of Shanghai-Nanjing expressway, about 15 minutes' drive from several major functional area such as Taihu New Town and Airport Industrial Park.
There are entrances in the middle of the station building where passengers can have their tickets checked and then wait to board the train. There are washrooms on both sides and a drinking fountain on one side of the station building. The Ticket Hall of the station is set up altogether 12 ticket windows and equipped with several ticket vending machines.
Part IV: Wuxi Huishan Railway Station
Huishan High-speed railway station, located at Xie Village, Qianzhou Town, Huishan District, Wuxi City.
There are 2 platforms and 4 through tracks around the station. Huishan Station is the only "below the line" station, that is, station hall is below the railway. Passengers entering station hall from square or underground passage must take elevator to elevated platform and then wait for boarding.

Part V: Traveling among Wuxi Railway Stations and Wuxi Airport
- Wuxi Railway Station to Wuxi Shuofang International Airport
Option 1. There are special buses beside the public transportation card charging booth directly for the Airport on the East Square of Wuxi Railway Station. Bus service time is from 6 a.m. to 11:20 p.m., leaving at least one bus each hour. Ticket fare is CNY 5 Yuan.
Option 2. Taking a taxi: It is about 20 kilometers between these two places. To ride a taxi, it takes 30 minutes with a fare of CNY 50 Yuan or so (exclusive of the highway toll).
- Wuxi Railway Station to Wuxi East Railway Station
By Bus: Passengers could take No.6, No.705, No.715 or No.722 bus from the North Square of Wuxi Railway Station directly to Wuxi East Railway Station. It takes about 60 minutes.
By Taxi: Distance is 20km. It takes 30 minutes by taxi with a fare of CNY 50 Yuan or so (exclusive of the highway toll).
- Wuxi Railway Station to Yixing or Zhangjiagang
Walking from Wuxi Railway Station to the new bus station nearby, passengers can then buy bus ticket from the ticket office, and get on the bus directly to Yixing or Zhangjiagang. Buses are leaving every 5 to 10 minutes in daytime with a fare of CNY 20 Yuan or so.
- Wuxi Railway Station to Lingshan Grand Buddha
By Bus. You can take No.88 bus from the South Square of Wuxi Railway Station to Lingshan Grand Buddha with a fare of CNY 2 Yuan. It takes about 80 minutes to ride such a long distance.
By Taxi.It takes about an hour and costs over CNY 100 Yuan for you to cover about 30 kilometer's distance. This is not cost-effective compared with traveling by bus.
Part VI: Taxi Fares in Wuxi
The flag-down fare is CNY 10 Yuan for 3 kilometers, and CNY 1.90 Yuan per more kilometers afterwards.
