Suzhou Railway Stations Guide


There are four passenger railway stations in Jiangsu Suzhou, naming Suzhou Railway Station, Suzhou North Railway Station, Suzhou Yuanqu (Industrial Park) Railway Station, Suzhou Xinqu (New Zone) Railway Station respectively.
Suzhou North Railway Station, Suzhou Xinqu Railway Station and Suzhou Yuanqu Railway Station began operation in year 2011. Suzhou North Railway Station mainly serves bullet trains running on Jinghu (Beijing-Shanghai) High Speed Railway, Suzhou Yuanqu Railway Station and Suzhou Xinqu Railway Station mainly serve bullet G trains running on Shanghai Nanjing Intercity High-Speed Railway or Huning Intercity High- Speed Railway. Suzhou Railway Station is one of the busiest railway stations in Jiangsu province with 40k passenger traffic volume each day.

Transportation Guide


Get to Suzhou from Shanghai Pudong Airport
  • By Airport Express

  • Passengers can take airport bus from Shanghai Pudong Airport to Suzhou directly. Operating hours are from 10:00am to 8:00 pm. Journey time is about 150 minutes and ticket fare is RMB 82 Yuan.
Get to Suzhou Railway Station from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport:
  • By Airport Bus

  • Passengers can take airport bus from Shanghai Hongqiao Airport to Suzhou directly. Operating hours are from 10:00am to 8:00 pm. Journey time is about 90 minutes and cost is RMB 55 Yuan.
Suzhou Railway Station to Zhouzhuang Water Village:
  • Passengers can take a bus from Suzhou North Bus Station to Zhouzhuang Water Village directly (Suzhou North Bus Station is 500 meters away to the east of Suzhou Railway Station, it takes only 10 minutes to walk there). Operating hours are from 8:00 am to 5:10 pm. Journey time is about 70 minutes and cost is RMB 17 Yuan.

Suzhou Train Ticket Booking Guide


Ticketing Hours:

Passengers can purchase ticket from any of the railway stations in Jiangsu Suzhou at anytime. Some ticket windows at the ticket hall open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
There are about 33 train ticket booking agencies in Suzhou. Most of these ticket agencies open at 7:30 am and close at 5:00 pm. To book tickets from these agenices, you are required to pay addtional RMB 5 Yuan each ticket as booking fee. Many train ticket booking agencies in Suzhou open 7 days a week.

Ticket Reservation Period in Suzhou.

Please note, in Jiangsu Suzhou, advance reservation period at train ticket agencies is longer than that at the railway station's ticket windows.
According to the official press release, passengers can reserve tickets from the ticket agencies for 11 days (including the journey date) in advance, while at the railway station's ticket windows, passengers can only reserve ticket for 6 days (including the journey date) in advance.
We recommend you reserve your tickets through ticket agenices for longer advance booking period.
Please note:
  1. During holiday seasons, advance reservation period may be shortened to 3 - 5 days.
  2. Passengers can buy train tickets for different places in Suzhou. For example, passenger can buy tickets of Guangzhou to Shenzhen trains through railway station's ticket windows or ticket agencies in Jiangsu Suzhou.
New Round of ticket issuing in Suzhou starts at 3:00 pm every day.
China has world's busiest railway network. If you buy train ticket on the date of journey, you may get disappointed as tickets might have been sold out already. We recommend you book your ticket in advance to make sure your journey will not be delayed.

Telephone Bookings

Passengers can call number wizard 95105105 to book train tickets in Suzhou. Advance Reservation Period is 5-11 days. Chinese Citizen ID is required to successfully book tickets from them.
As an expatriate, you are suggested to book tickets at the railway station's ticket windows or through ticket booking agencies.

Online Bookings

The only place to book ticket online is through a Chinese website called www.12306.cn. It requires local bank account to make online payment after submitting booking form as overseas credit card is not accepted by it. Therefore, China Train Guide.Com would like to suggest you let your host in China to book ticket for you through it. You can then pick ticket directly from the railway station's ticket window by showing ticket seller your passport number as well as booking number on the date of journey.

Railway Rules and Regulations You Should Know


Chinese railway industry has its own characters, railway rules and regulations in China are quite different with any other country in the world. Getting familiar with these rules will make your rail travel in China more successful and happy!
Luggage Rules:
  • Inflammable and explosive dangerous goods, animal and pet are not allowed to take on the train
  • Luggage weight requirment:luggage weight should be under 10kg for of child passenger, luggage weight should be under 30kg for diplomatic personnel and luggage weight should be under 20kg for other adult passenger.
  • Luggage size requirment: Total length of the luggage ( length+width+height) should be under 200cm.
Requirements for Child Tickets

Instead of age, China has special requirments on child's height to buy child ticket. Requirments on child ticket can be summarized as the followings:
  • Child with the height under 120cm can enjoy free rail travel and doesn't need to pay for rail travel. Parents can let their children share same sleepers/seat with them.
  • Child with the height between 120cm - 150cm has right to buy discounted train ticket. Price of sleeper ticket for child is about 70% of that for adult.
  • Child with the height above 150cm should buy full-priced train ticket, no matter his/her age.
