Shenzhen Railway Stations Guide


There are three passenger railway stations in Shenzhen, naming Shenzhen Railway Station, Shenzhen West Railway Station and Shenzhen North Railway Station respectively.
Shenzhen Railway Station, also known as Luohu Railway Station, is the city's main railway station. The station locates near Luohu Port & Luohu Border Checkpoint Building which makes passengers much convenient to enter Hong Kong.
Located in Nanshan District, Shenzhen West Railway Station, also known as Nantou Railway Station, is very shabby and dirty with low traffic volume.
Located 9.3km north to the downtown, Shenzhen North Railway Station started business operation in the end of 2011. It mainly serves high speed bullet trains running between Shenzhen and Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Wuhan, Shenzhen and Xiamen, Shenzhen and Beijing and etc.
Trains departing from Shenzhen are mainly for South China region including Guangzhou city, Guangxi, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Anhui, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and etc.

Transportation Guide


Shenzhen Airport to Shenzhen Luohu Train Station (Shenzhen Railway Station)
  • Option 1. by Airport Express

  • Passengers can take No. 330 airport bus to Shenzhen Railway Station directly. There are five stops from Shenzhen International Airport to the Railway Station. Distance is 35 kilometers and Journey time is about 50 minutes. Ticket fare is RMB 20 Yuan.
    The first airport bus departs at 7:30am. Airport bus will not stop operation until the airport's closing time approaches.
  • Option 2. by Bus

  • Passenger can also take No. K568 bus (20 minutes per) from the airport to Shenzhen Railway Station. Operating hour for K568 is 6:30 to 22:00. Ticket fare is RMB 20 Yuan
  • Option 3. by Subway

  • Passenger can take Shenzhen subway line 1 to transport from Baoan Airport to Shenzhen Railway Station. Operation hour for subway line 1 (for Luohu direction) is from 6:30 to 23:00. Journey time is about 1 hour and ticket price is Renminbi 9 Yuan.
  • Option 4. by Taxi

  • Shortest distance between Baoan Airport and Shenzhen Railway Station is 38km. Riding time is about 50 minutes and taxi fare is about Renminbi 110 Yuan.
Shenzhen Bao'an Airport to the North Railway Station
Passenger should go to Shenzhen North Railway Station to take high speed bullet train to travel to Wuhan, Changsha and etc.
  • Option 1: by Subway

  • Passenger can take Luobao Line from the Airport East Subway Station to Bao'an Center Station firstly and then transfer to Huanzhong Line of Huangbeiling direction for Shenzhen North Railway Station. Journey time is more than 50 minutes and ticket fare is Renminbi 7 Yuan.
  • Option 2: by Taxi

  • The shortest riding distance from Shenzhen Bao'an Airport to the North Railway Station is 33 kilomters. Riding time for a taxi is about 50 minutes and taxi fare is about Renminbi 94 Yuan.
Shenzhen Bao'an Airport to the West Railway Station
  • by taxi

  • The best way to get to Shenzhen West Railway Station from Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport is to take taxi. Distance between these two places is about 20 kilometers and taxi fare is about RMB 60 Yuan.

Shenzhen Train Ticket Booking Guide


Ticketing Hours:

Passengers can purchase ticket from Shenzhen Railway Stations (including the West Station) anytime. Some ticket windows at the Railway Stations open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
There are also about 100 train ticket agencies in Shenzhen. Most of these ticket agencies open at 8:00 and close at 18:30. To book tickets from these agenices, you are required to pay addtional RMB 5 Yuan for each ticket as booking fee.
Ticket Reservation Period in Shenzhen.

According to the latest official press release, Passengers can reserve tickets for 11 days (including the journey date) in advance in Shenzhen. That means, if you want to leave Shenzhen on May 16th, you can reserve the ticket on May 5th.
During holiday seasons, such as Labours Day, China National Day, Middle Autumn Festival, Chinese Spring Festival and etc, advance reservation period will be shortened to 3 - 5 days.
China has world's busiest railway network. If you buy the ticket on the date of journey, you may get disappointed as tickets might have been sold out already. Please purchase train ticket in advance if you can.

Telephone Bookings

Passengers can booking train ticket in Shenzhen by calling number wizard 95105160. Chinese Citizen ID is required to successfully book tickets from them.
As an expatriate, you are suggested to book tickets at the railway station's ticket windows or through ticket booking agencies.


Booking Train Ticket Online
The Chinese website www.12306.cn provides online ticket booking services. Overseas passenger should submit their passport information to do so. Local bank account is required to make online payment after submitting book form, otherwise, your booking will be rejected.

Useful Tips to Buy Train Tickets in Shenzhen for Foreigners

  • Sometimes, railway station would reserve some tickets on some key routes for foreign guests only. (We are a civilized country and would offer special priority in train ticket booking for overseas tourists). Therefore, we suggest you go to the railway station to purchase or reserve train ticket instead of purchasing ticket through ticket agency.
    If you have a tight schedule and can't miss the designated train on the designated date and you are told by the ticket agency that tickets are sold out, then please go to the railway station with your passport and ask people in the railway station's ticket office for help. You may get a Big Surprise.
  • Shenzhen Railway Station has green channel for special guests. In urgent cases, passengers can get on board through this channel and buy tickets on the train.
  • Please take cash to purchase train ticket in China. Credit card is not accepted at the ticket window.
Luggage Rules on China Railway:
  • Inflammable and explosive dangerous goods, animal and pet are not allowed to take on the train
  • Carry-on Baggage: 10kg for child passenger, 20kg for adult passenger and 30 kg for diplomatic personnel.
  • Size requirments on carry-on luggage: total length of the luggage ( length+width+height) should be under 200 cm.
Child Tickets

Instead of age, China has special requirments on child's height in purchasing child ticket for the train. Requirments can be summarized as the followings:
  • Child with the height under 120cm can enjoy free rail travel and don't need to pay.
  • Child with the height between 120cm - 150cm have privilege to buy half-price train tickets.
  • Child with the height above 150cm should buy full-price train tickets no matter how old she/he is.
  • Price of seat ticket for child is 50% of that of adult ticket; Price of sleeper ticket for child is about 70% of that of adult ticket.
Residential Hotels

There are nearly a hundred of hotels closing to Shenzhen Luohu Railway Station. These hotels can be classified into several grade: from economic hotel to five star luxury hotel.
