Changsha Train Travel Guide


Changsha, the capital of Hunan province, is located in the east-northeast of Hunan Province. It has jurisdiction over 6 districts, 2 counties (Changsha county and Ningxiang county) and 1 city (Liuyang). Changsha has 3000 years glorious history of ancient city civilization and it is the home of Chuhan and Huxiang civilization. Han Tombs at Mawangdui which is the archaeological wonder of the World, Four Sheep Square Pot and the world's largest bamboo slips were all unearthed here.

Changsha is the important traffic hub city of southern China with convenient water, land and air transportation.

There are currently 3 railway stations in Changsha and they are respectively Changsha Station on Beijing-Guangzhou railway, Changsha South Station on Wuhan-Guangzhou high speed rail line and Changsha West Station (under construction). In addition, there is a Ningxiang Railway Station also for passengers & freight transportation.

Changsha Railway Stations Guide


Changsha station whose postcode is 41000, located in Wuyi East Road, Changsha, is now the principal station. It is equipped with 5 waiting rooms, 4 platforms and 8 arrival-departure passenger lines with a total area of 42,000 square meters. It daily sends and receives 170 trains picking up or dropping off nearly 90,000 passengers.

Changsha South Railway Stations Guide

Changsha South Station is located in Huahou Road, Yuhua district, Changsha and it is 9.5 km away from the downtown. On December 26, 2009, Changsha South Station was formally put into service with the opening of Wuhan-Guangzhou section of Beijing-Hong Kong high-speed rail.

Station Layout

There are now 2 yards in Changsha South Station and they are respectively Beijing-Hong Kong passenger line yard and Shanghai-Kunming passenger line yard. It has totally 13 platforms and 28 lines with the construction area of 272,600 square meters. Changsha South Station will be introduced into Shanghai-Kunming high-speed rail under construction, which will form a cross with Beijing-Hong Kong high-speed rail.

The building of Changsha South station is divided into five layers and they are respectively waiting hall layer, platform layer, exit layer, subway waiting hall layer, subway platform layer from top to bottom. The only entrance is in the platform layer.

Waiting Room

Bus passengers can take either of the two elevator to get into the waiting hall once they have entered into the station building. While, passengers who drive themselves or take a taxi can directly go to the drop-off platform to get in. The entrance is equipped with 6 security scanners in operation and can be used for 5,000 passengers to get in per hour.

The area of the Elevated Waiting Room in Beijing-Hong Kong yard is 25,134 square meters (The waiting room of Shanghai-Kunming yard is under construction), and there are totally 14 automatic ticket gates and 14 manual ticket checking windows.

The area of the waiting room for basic platform is 510 square meters and there is 1 automatic ticket gate and 1 manual one.

The area of VIP waiting area is 246.8 square meters and there is a channel to basic platform and a barrier-free vertical elevator which can be used to run up to the elevated layer.

Leave the Train Station

To come out Changsha South Station, travelers should all together go down to the exit hall from the platform firstly. There are escalators connecting the exit hall with all of its 13 platforms. Besides, there is a barrier-free vertical elevator to each of the 11 intermediate platforms connecting to the exit Layer. For those who want to go to the subway station, 2 elevators are available in the exit hall.

Ticketing

In Changsha South Station, Ticket Hall 1 of the exit Layer is equipped with 16 manual ticket windows (including a window for the disabled) and 4 ticket machines; The Platform Layer is equipped with 17 manual ticket windows (including a window for the disabled) and 8 ticket machines; The entrance Hall is equipped with 8 ticket machines; The Elevated Waiting Layer is equipped with 22 ticket machines.


Transfer Guide


Changsha Railway Station to Changsha South Railway Station

Bus No.135 and No.148 run directly to and from Changsha Railway Station and Changsha South Station. Time of the whole journey is about 50 minutes and the fare is CNY 2 Yuan.

If with luggage, you can also take a taxi. The distance between the two places is about 12 km. It takes about 25 minutes and the fare is about CNY 35 Yuan.

Changsha Railway Station to Changsha Huanghua International Airport

Bus: Bus No.114 runs to and from between the two places. It takes about 2 hours for a single trip.

Taxi: The distance between the two places is about 25 km. It takes 40 minutes by taxi and the fare is about CNY 70 Yuan.

Changsha South Railway Station to Changsha Huanghua International Airport

Passengers can take the airport bus line 3 to travel to and from between the two places. It takes 30 minutes for a single trip and the fare is CNY 21.5 Yuan.
Distance between the two places is about 20 km. It takes 25 minutes by taxi and the fare is about CNY 50 Yuan.


Taxi Fares in Changsha

05:00 - 21:00: The flag-fall price is CNY 6 Yuan for 2 km and the unit- price is 1.8 CNY Yuan / km. Once the journey exceeds 10km, the part in excess is 2.7 CNY Yuan / km.

21:00 - 05:00: The flag-fall price is CNY 7 Yuan for 2 km and the unit- price is 2.2 CNY Yuan per km. Once the journey exceed 10km, the part in excess is 2.7 CNY Yuan per km.
